Welcome Message

The 67th annual meeting of the Japanese Society of Anesthesiologists

On behalf of the members of the Japanese Society of Anesthesiologists (JSA), I am pleased to welcome you to the 67th Annual Meeting of the JSA in Kobe from 4th to 6th of June 2020. As all we know, the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games are coming up later in the summer of 2020. The skill, mental strength, and teamwork that we find mesmerizing in the Games are not limited to the world of sports. While we anesthesiologists do not need to compete against each other to win a gold medal, we do need to use this kind of meeting to sharpen our fundamental elements, but ensure that we are offering high quality of medical practice and advancing medical science.

The main theme of this meeting is “Anesthesiology in Futuristic Society.” The roles of anesthesiologists have increased remarkably in recent years, not only in the OR, but also outside it in areas such as pain medicine, intensive care medicine, and palliative medicine, among others. Furthermore, great expectations and anxieties have also been swirling around surrounding the singularity, through which artificial intelligence (AI) will surpass humans, and the global changes thereafter. Over and above big data analysis, diagnostic imaging, and innovation, we have reached the point where we must seriously pursue such technological advancements as AI robots in order to optimize patients' care both more confidently and with greater safety.

Currently, the executive committee is closely examining the scientific program of cutting-edge research and technology to meet your expectations in each area, while also diligently preparing for the annual meeting. Although I assume you are busy in your daily work, let’s gather in Kobe for 3 days from June 4th of 2020 and make it an opportunity to sharpen our foundations as anesthesiologists through discussions.
I hope you will join us in Kobe.
